What to Expect

The first few minutes of a session are for us to become familiar with one another.  This is an important time to get the jitters out of the way.  Yes, a camera can be very intimidating but remember that this should be an enjoyable time.  Let’s chat and become friends. 

If I am photographing children I like to remind parents to not advise them to “Say Cheese”.  This will not give you a natural smile and as a professional I want to capture those moments that you will treasure forever.  It’s important to get silly happy grins and that may take a little clowning around to obtain.  You may see me wiggle my tail feathers or ask you to do the same.  But surely these goofy activities make for a true laugh and beautiful smile.    I may even ask you to pull back a few feet and pretend you aren’t looking so that your child does not feel like they have to perform for you.  Do not be offended and remember it will provide you the best results.  

During your session you will notice that there are a lot of clicks from my camera, I take multiple photos of the same pose to ensure I get a good shot.  You may wonder why you won’t receive all of these photos from your session.  The answer is simple.  During a photography session light will need to be tested frequently.  Due to this,  my camera may take 10 or more photos of the same pose, I may also make adjustments due to the output but I only expect to yield one photo from this. 

Do not feel that you need to hold a pose, some of the best shots are when I get you into a position and then you adjust yourself to feel comfortable.  Remember this should feel natural and not fake.  I will suggest some idea’s of where to stand but certainly this is just a rough draft of the final product.  Shake off the mannequin stance and lean in the way you would naturally. 

If this is a family session please remember to interact with your children.  Photos that are most memorable are of parents kissing their babies, dancing with them, playing and cuddling them tight.  Take this opportunity to allow me to capture special bonds that your family has.  If your little girl likes a silly peek-a-boo game, do it.  If your little man likes when daddy “get’s his nose”, steal it.  The moments that are cherished are the moments that happen without force.
